ABAROTH - GNOSTIC APOSTLE
The obscure Massachusetts cult emerges again with a new 4 song EP entitled, GNOSTIC APOSTLE. While countless black metal bands have retreated in the face of Christian Nationalist political influence and power, ABAROTH charges to the front with a fist in the face of god. GNOSTIC APOSTLE features the band’s defiant posture against contemporary Black Metal’s subservient conformity, in favor of their natural Viking Metal roots that stem from the power of Heavy Metal. Recently anointed lead guitarist, Malighieri (dawnbringer) delivers a profound, pentatonic penance that vibrates with dual harmonic triumph and glory, while heavy bass lines throttle alongside thunderous drumming that echoes across 4 tracks. Lead singer Xammael weaves vocal incantations into the fabric of each song with a dynamic range that is accompanied by members Tabarnak and Arktouros in unison moments of demonic harmony and secluded meditation. The tone of the release is set by the album artwork, featuring the 1973 painting, Unio Mystica, by Dutch Occult Surrealist painter, Johfra Bosschart, granted directly from the estate museum in The Netherlands. GNOSTIC APOSTLE is a journey into the subconscious reality of ancient occultism’s opposition to tyranny, unearthed by the desire to challenge status quo, societal normalities that have plagued heavy music in recent times.
